Guidance

The counselors of the Orefield Middle School Guidance Department strive to help in the emotional, educational, and academic growth between elementary and high school. Through individual student meetings, groups, and parent and teacher consultation, the counselors address issues related to social skills, homework, organization, family concerns, personal growth and crisis. The counselors believe in the dignity and worth of all students and are committed to their role as advocates for students in the educational setting.

The seventh grade guidance classes address a variety of topics crucial to the development of middle school students. These topics include: Career Exploration; Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drug Issues; Communication & Teamwork; Cyber Safety, and Diversity.

As part of the middle school transition, the counselors conduct course registration presentations and student meetings to aid the students in selecting classes that meet their academic and/or individual career goals. Emphasis is placed on transition activities for incoming elementary students as well as students entering the high school from middle school.

The grade level counselors work closely with teachers, parents, administrators and students in order to ensure students with special needs thrive in the most appropriate educational environment. Counselors play an integral role as a team member, working to meet the needs of all students.
